Allendale is a lovely little Northumberland town where you can try a pint of Allendale real ale from the town’s own brewery, tuck into generous sandwiches and homemade pies at the Allendale Butchers or call into one of the traditional village pubs which sit around the village square.
This is a great area for walkers and cyclists. For a scenic walk, head out around the River Allen East on routes taking in moorland, waterfalls and wildlife, as well as the remains of Allendale’s industrial heritage of lead and silver extraction.
From A69 take A686 sign posted Alston for approx. 3.5 miles. Turn left onto B6295 sign posted Allendale, as you leave Catton take right fork downhill across bridge and up to crossroads, (look out for BCC signs) take left sign posted Allendale, Just before bridge take right into farm lane, site on right in 200yds.
